Successful Go Live for Snohomish PUD Connect Up AMI Project

Utegration led multi-company effort to successfully deliver an end-to-end solution for AMI 2.0

Houston, TX – August 22, 2023 Utegration has announced the “go live” of Snohomish County Public Utility District’s Connect Up Project to provide Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) capabilities for approximately 373,000 electric meters and 23,000 water meters.  This project represents a significant upgrade to Snohomish PUD’s infrastructure that will deliver an array of new benefits for customers and help PUD become the “Utility of the Future.”

The project integrated the following primary solution components:

  • AMI meter and network technology from Sensus, a Xylem brand
  • Siemens EnergyIP® MDMS (hosted)
  • SAP for Utilities (IS-U)
  • AWS data analytics

The comprehensive solution will provide richer, more granular usage data that will enhance Snohomish PUD’s ability to advise consumers. Newly available meter events, alerts and remote commands will allow them to improve operations while elevating customer services. More importantly, customers will enjoy fixed, predictable due dates as their meters are gradually converted over the next several years. Snohomish PUD will also target AMI 2.0 benefits over time with solution stabilization and the completion of the mass meter roll-out.

Snohomish PUD selected Utegration as their key solution implementation partner due to the company’s extensive record of delivering AMI projects, the excellent resources they assigned to the project, and their track record of working well with the other vendors to deliver AMI.

Project success was achieved via a strong collaborative partnership between team members from Snohomish PUD, Z2Solutions LLC (AMI Program Advisor), TRC Companies (Meter Data Management System, Siemens EnergyIP), Sensus (AMI Head End System, RNI), the chosen meter installation vendor, and Utegration (SAP for Utilities, System Integrator).

“Utegration brought to our project a great team of skilled professionals for project management, technical and business architecture, and technical SAP build and test to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for AMI,” said Doris Payne, Project Manager, Snohomish PUD. “Their experience at doing AMI allows them to understand the complexity and to create solutions to make things simpler and easier to use, given the vast scope of AMI use cases. This experience applies not only with SAP’s pre-built integrations for AMI but with Snohomish PUD’s Meter Data Management and AMI Head End systems.

“Quality was job one throughout the entire process, delivered through the exceptional collaboration orchestrated by Utegration’s Project Management,” continued Payne. “This is one of the most collaborative teams we have been a part of in all of our larger projects over the years.”

Said Marc Rosson, Enterprise Architect at Snohomish PUD, “Utegration not only brought together a team of talented staff who understood the business and systems, but by partnering with the other contractors providing key parts of the solution, made it possible for all of us to deliver on-time, on-budget, and with the feature set we need to deliver AMI 2.0 into the future.”

“AMI is critical to delivering the operational and societal benefits utilities need to support new business models and achieve sustainability goals,” said Utegration’s Managing Director, AMI and Energy Analytics, Chris Bui. “We are thrilled to have led another successful AMI project, and proud to be a part of the industry transformation.”
